Bread Knives

Bread knives aren’t just for bread! While they effortlessly cut through crusty sourdough loaves, artisan breads and soft rolls they are also useful for cutting cakes, tomatoes, citrus fruit and melons.

Bread knives are serrated to cut through both the tough crust and the soft interior without crushing the bread which a straight edge struggles with. GLOBAL bread knives are designed with serrated teeth that have built in chambers to clear crumbs easily, helping guide the blade to cut clean, straight and even slices without tearing or crushing the bread.

1. Let the bread cool fully
2. Place the bread on a stable surface
3. Use a sawing motion, starting at the heel of the blade
4. Use long, gentle back and forth strokes – don’t push down

Bread knives can’t be sharpened like chef’s knives, it requires more practice and precision. You will need a sharpening steel or ceramic tool that fits into each serration of the knife to sharpen each tooth individually a the correct angle. While this is an option, it is a difficult skill to master and if you find your bread knife has become blunt, we most often recommend your replace your knife.
