Global's Story

A thousand years ago, Japanese sword smiths developed the high art of sword making to provide strong, sharp blades for the Samurai warriors. GLOBAL knives have been hand crafted in Japan using the same tradition, and the best raw materials, for over 40 years.

Where are GLOBAL Knives made today?

Japanese Knives. Made in Japan.

GLOBAL knives have been crafted in Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata, Japan using the same tradition for over 40 years.

Tsubmae-Sanjo is known as one of the leading cutlery and kitchen knife manufacturing areas in Japan, with its manufacturing history dating back to the Edo period (1603-1868).

The area began making Japanese nails around 1625, and by the 1700s Tsubame-Sanjo's forging had developed into swords and farming implements. Eventually, cutlery including kitchen knives, and all kinds of stainless-steel cutting items were developed.

From its modest inception in Tsubame, GLOBAL has developed into one of the most successful brands of Japanese kitchen knives in the world. GLOBAL Knives UK are the official distributors of Japanese GLOBAL Knives for the UK and Ireland.

Who designed GLOBAL knives?

Designed By Komin Yamada. Creative Visionary.

GLOBAL kitchen knives were first designed in 1985 by the creative visionary, Komin Yamada who developed a range of revolutionary knives using the best materials and latest manufacturing techniques.

His ground breaking design launched a brand new genre of knife to the industry: all stainless steel. Offering sharpness, durability and a lightweight, hygienic one-piece structure, the beauty of "less is more" became popular worldwide.

40 years since its debut, GLOBAL Knives remain a kitchen staple all over the world.

Who makes GLOBAL Knives?

Made by Yoshikin. Kitchen Knife INnovators.

GLOBAL Knives are made in Japan by Yoshida Metal industry (Yoshikin).

In 1954, in Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Yoshikin, began its history as a stainless-steel cutlery manufacturer. At that time, carbon steel was the most common material used in kitchen knife production, and there was a general perception that stainless steel was inferior in terms of sharpness.

However, Yoshikin founder, Yuzo Watanabe, pioneered the development of stainless steel kitchen knives with wood handles. The sharpness of these knives was comparable to carbon steel and had added corrosion resistance. The outstanding quality of these knives won high acclaim.

Further technological innovations and thoughtful design by industrial designer Komin Yamada, led to the creation of the GLOBAL kitchen knife, an all-stainless steel kitchen knife with an integrated structure.

How are GLOBAL Knives made?

Quality Materials. Expert Craftmanship.

GLOBAL knives are made from the finest stainless steel material. The blades utilise CROMOVA 18 stainless steel, ice tempered and hardened to Rockwell C56-58 which holds a razor sharp edge longer than any other steel and resists rust, stains and corrosion.

GLOBAL knives’ edges are ground steeply to a point with a 15° acute angle and straight edge.

GLOBAL uses a hollow handle which is filled with just the right amount of sand to create a perfect balance between the blade and the handle.

What makes GLOBAL Knives the best kitchen knives?

Razor Sharp Edge. Built to Last.

The most important feature of any knife is its edge, and the GLOBAL edge is its signature.

Ground to an acute 15° Japanese knife angle, GLOBAL knives feature a finer, straighter edge than traditional Western knives. This precision creates a noticeably sharper knife that cuts effortlessly and stays sharper for longer.
