Time to Scrub Up – Hints and Tips for Looking After your GLOBAL Knives

Imagine it, you’ve just prepped the most delicious meal, perhaps using the all-rounder G-2 Cook’s Knife for your veg, meat and everything in between.

Now it’s time to clean the knife – you reach for the dishwasher.

Stop!

Never put your professional GLOBAL knives in the dishwasher. The combination of heat, detergent, moisture and contact with other items can damage both the blade and the blade edge.  This drastically reduces the lifespan of that expert edge retention and effortless cutting performance. Which we really don’t want. And you certainly don’t, your GLOBAL guarantee will be voided!

So how can you avoid this? How can you guarantee these professional-grade knives remain that way, for a lifetime?

Simple answer – hand wash them.

Use these simple steps to care for your chosen GLOBAL knife:

Washing

Using mild detergents, in warm water, clean your knives as soon as possible after using them. Be careful, ensuring the blade is free from all food residues.

Drying

Once you have finished washing, dry immediately. Do not let them air dry! This will prevent corrosion or rusting, as if Cromova 18 stainless steel (which all our knives are crafted from) is left in water, they are still susceptible to corroding. For an extra protective layer, why not try adding a little camelia oil after each use.

Knife Storage

Now your knives are clean and dry, it’s crucial to store them properly! Whether that is in a knife sheath, block, drawer insert or magnetic rack, ensure the blades are stored in a fixed position – not just chucked in the top drawer!

Cutting Surface

It’s time to get your knife back out to prep another decadent meal. But did you know that the chopping board you choose can impact the care of your knife? We recommend using either wooden or plastic knives, which are less harsh to the knife. Glass or stone boards can cause damage and dull the blade edge quicker.

And of course, if ever you feel your favoured knife is feeling a little dull, you can always choose to sharpen the blade, right at home. For hints and tips of caring for and sharpening your knives, as well as knife cutting techniques, check out the GLOBAL Knife School.

A phrase I hear a lot here at GLOBAL, “If you look after your knives, they will look after you!”. Time to prolong the life expectancy of your knives and maintain an ultra-sharp cutting edge for years to come.
